I’m not sure if you guys have caught up as to where I am in my career at the moment?
Having fought back from being on the very edge of the precipice in the 2008 I have slowly set out and crafted a life that really does make my heart sing.
I accepted an offer to go back and work with Tony Buzan – the guy who invented Mind Mapping .. and as I am the Five Times World Champion it made sense that I looped back once more to work alongside him.
Sadly Tony died last year .. and my exciting role developing our trainers worldwide and flying hither and yon speaking with new students to the techniques was immediately curtailed as I set about the whole issue of dealing with probate and unpicking his legal and business affairs with his longtime friend and my colleague.
But all through these last 11 months or so I have kept a list – a list of what this business really could look like if it were modernised, systemised and reinvented again as a busy global entity.
My “wish list”
And now – with all the legal issues sorted and everyone sitting at home I realised that I had come to a crossroads .. sit at home and watch Netflix .. OR .. dig out my list and start working with the global team to put the business front and centre again.
Well .. you guys can guess which one I would choose .. I have never been great at sitting still have I? Give me a problem , combine that with a lack of money and require me to come up with a creative solution and I am in my element.
Part of the rebuild is saying “Yes” to opportunities to front up the business again .. so today .. today we are attempting a reject that we have never attempted before.
We are filming a television documentary …..
Without a full film crew ……
From my home office in Scotland ….
And a production team in the Netherlands ….
And animators working from home …..
And editors on their kitchen tables ……
And a producer calling in from her balcony
Now the Dutch team are pretty excited .. as they discovered after a chat a few weeks ago that I knew enough about Lighting and Sound to make sure that the feeds they were going to get would be pretty much “Broadcast Quality” but even so .. now its the morning of the filming I confess to having some jitterbugs!
So I have done the sensible thing and had a decent breakfast (no rumbly tummy thought the day as these things always take much longer than you think they might)
I have laid out my rollers and my makeup and I have chosen a bright shirt so I look somewhat together (except my hair is long and thick and heavy and getting the stage its difficult to style)
So time to go make myself look less “Mummy in Lockdown” and more “International Media Star – from Home!”
Its amazing that when change is foisted upon us how we just get on with it without a thought .. in the “days before” if they had asked to make this documentary it would have been such a faff with dozens of people flying around and organising venues and lighting and sound.
Now its me – a teen helper and the attitude of “Good enough is well done!”
Perhaps there is a lesson in here for us all .. not to be afraid of trying new things, saying yes to new experiences and diving in with both feet even if you don’t have all the answers.
You see I can see very clearly how this business can benefit so many people around the world .. but in order to help them I am going to have to slay a few sacred cows about “this is how we have always done things” and so on.
The lockdown may have confined me to our wee house .. but it has allowed me the space to dream about doing something and better than we could every have hoped.
So say Yes! If someone asks .. say Yes and figure it all out later. Becasue it can all be figured out.
Now .. time to get glam and thrown this mop of mine into some rollers …. slap on some makeup … slick on some lippy and get this project underway!
Laters ladies .. cos I want to hear all about what you are going to say Yes to today!!
