One of our lovelies spotted one of these on my facebook feed – a little 30 minute crochet project that I made for the wee ones 12th birthday that he had in lock-down last week.
And a request was made – could I write up the “recipe” for making a neat circle so that they could make one too?
So .. happy to oblige …. and to make another one that is going off to a very spacial person (No spoilers you will have to read to the end to find out whom)
So .. Ta Da! On we go .. grab your hooks and let make a Rainbow of Hope!
So you will need small amount of yarn in six rainbow colours. I have
Purple, Blue, Green ,yellow ,orange and red and I use a 3.5 mm hook but if you crochet tight you may want to go up a size to make a stitch that you are happy with.
For best UK crochet tutorials – my favourite is Bella Coco https://www.youtube.com/user/sa8rah56
So with my purple I make 4 chain stitches and then in the fourth chain from the hook I work 12 treble crochet stitches and slip-stitch to form a circle. (12 stitches)
With my blue yarn I chain 2. Then work 2 treble crochets into each stitch around and slip stitch to the first treble crochet (24 Stitches)
Changing to green. I chain 2 then make one treble crochet into the same stitch. *2 treble crochet in the next stitch and 1 treble crochet in the next * Repeat * until you have completed your round and slip stitch to join as normal (36 stitches)
Yellow yarn – isn’t it beginning to look pretty?
Chain 2, 2 tr into the same stitch, 1 tr in the next two stitches. *2 tr in next stitch, 1 tr in next two stitches*. Repeat * till you have finished this round and slip-stitch to join (48 stitches)
Change to orange yarn.
Chain 2, 2 tr in same stitch, 1 tr in next three stitches. *2 tr in next stitch, 1 tr in next 3 stitches*. Repeat * until you are round again and slip-stitch to join (60 stitches)
Using red colour yarn.
Chain 2, 2 half treble crochet in the same stitch, 1 htr in next 4 stitches. *2 htr in the next stitch, I htr I the next 4 stitches*. Repeat * to complete the round and slip stitch to join. (72 stitches)
Fold the rainbow circle in half like a taco and line up the stitches to match on either side. Whip along using double crochet to crochet the sides together. Weave in your ends.
Isn’t it pretty …..
Add a hanger (Just a 30 chain loop) .. and donate to your favourite NEWLY QUALIFIED DOCTOR!!!!
So .. shout out to Dr Eloise Smellie .. daughter of one of our lovely readers who graduated this morning via zoom and is on her way to wards as we speak. Gillian – you need to ping me over her address so I can pop it in the post this week for her to let he know how proud we are of everything she has achieved .. and everything she is about to do.
So .. who is up for some hookie therapy then?
