Don’t worry – I am not about to stun you with my gloriously flexible new body because I have religiously been following some Yoga Hottie for the last five weeks!
Let’s get real here .. some days its a struggle to lift my bahookie from the chair and achieve ANYTHING physical!
I am not daft enough to think that we can all live on sourdough and pasta , do no exercise and come out of this lockdown fit enough (mentally or physically) to rebuild what is left of our communities.
I am getting to the point that something .. anything has to change .. and can I confess that with a Fitbit on yesterday I did less than 1500 steps the whole day .. and NOPE I did not miss a zero off the end of that.
I am officicially a SLOTH – and although they are cute wee beggars I don’t think a frumpy, lumpy body post lockdown is going to help me jumpstart our business and create some income inthe same way that a fit and strong one might!
I used to spend the first hour of my day walking – it was my thinking time and my time to build up strength and flexibility in my body after my spinal surgery.
So I would walk the little red head to school (OMG – just realised that I may never get to walk him to his Primary school every again!!) and then take off on a loop around our town with a Podcast in tow.
But then we were quarantined for a few weeks – the wee one had a cough that woudn’t quit and by the time we waited it out our 14 days had become nearly a month!
Intellectually I know I should pick up this habit again .. so why is it so hard to pull on my walking boots and get out there in the early ours when the town is still fast asleep?
So I started using this:
Yup – that is an ironing board across the handles where I would prop my i-pad and watch something whilst I was plodding in the miles .. the thing is it really feels like plodding and I was so bored!
Like – wanting to chew off my face bored …. at the best of times I am not great at sitting and watching TV so this is reallly not doing it for me … although the boys are on a challenge to do a Sofa to 5K.
So today I have committed to getting out again and have laid my walking boots at the door ready to be pulled on at lunchtime to take me up and out in the sunshine.
My challenge today is to find something I can build into my routine that can help make me stronger and more flexible.
So the big lad suggested some light weights …
But my physio has suggested being very careful learning how to use these (remember my spinal surgery) … and so I am doing my reasearch on Youtube (which as we all know is watching videos and not doing any of the exercise at all LOL)
But I like the idea of using up what I already have in stock .. so went rummaging around the house today to find all my fitness DVDs that I used to LOVE!
I have dipped in and out of these over the years depending on how strong my back was and thinking back I really did love using them.
So .. dipping my toes into a goal very gently here ladies!!
I am NOT committing to running a marathon or competing in a body-building competition .. but I have set myself the challenge of “moving gently” for the next seven days and selecting just one of these DVDs to follow.
For me its just a simple 20 minute morning and evening routine that should start to loosen up all these stress tightened muscles.
So today’s challenge .. using only what you have acccess to from home .. what small, tiny, baby-step routine could you put in place that could help you melt away some of the stress and help you feel better about moving your body?
Stands back and waits for the secret aerialists, poll dancers and belly dancing hobbiests to reveal all LOL.
Off I go .. 20 minutes right now XX
